Imperialism

While the kids are busy learning about imperialism as part of history, and how bad and mean it was, America is creating history. Not by being the first country in the world to have a idiot as a President, but by indulging in imperialism in this age of democracy.
This essay by Arundhati Roy published in Outlook points out USA's imperialistic intentions.

Look at America's unreasonable conquer of Iraq and its aftermath. Where is the much talked-about freedom of the Iraqi people? They have little food, even lesser drinking water, their museum has been looted in spite of it being labelled as an important site to be protected, children orphaned, families lost... is this the freedom they asked for? Sure, they got freedom from the bad guy, but now they've been passed into the hands of another bad guy. The bad guy who is interested only in their oil, the guy who shocked and awed Iraq as well as the rest of the world, the guy who wants to turn their country into a haven for American capitalists so the latter can make pots of dollars.

And what can the Iraqis do? Hope that another country rescues them from the clutches of the capitalists? That just doesn't seem possible, for who will dare to challenge Big Daddy?

They say (in not-so-hushed tones) the next target will be Syria. And after Syria?

After that, the beginning of the end of democracy.
